How would you describe the overall aesthetic of Victoria Keen?

Colorful, distinct, and versatile.

Was there any particular inspiration for the current collection?

I was going for a neo-tribal feel with my “Monster Wave” print. The other print for this season, the “Mandala Blossom” was a working meditation inspired by the Mandalas. They never cease to amaze me.

What is your favorite piece from the current collection?

I’m partial to really wild color, so I love the neon green flare pants with the Mandala Blossom print.

What is your favorite LA restaurant?

Urusawa is incredible!

This was my first year attending Wanderlust and I participated as a student, observer, dancer, studio owner and friend. The energy is indescribable. The pictures I took don’t portray enough of the positive vibrations that were contagious and found in people everywhere; the people I met and made friends with, danced with, practiced with and rekindled with.

First and foremost, to my friend… Mat Whittingham of C3 Presents… You hooked it up. Thank you for making this happen!

My “a-ha, so happy-crazy-weird to see you” moment: One of the bands that played, The Ferocious Few, I realized I had met him on the streets of San Francisco 5-6 years ago right when he was starting to jam. We recalled that I bought his street CD and then ran into him at a party later that night. I remember listening to music on vinyl records until the sun came up… So cool to see him on stage now!

I digress for a moment for another random run-in with a couple that I met at the Global Green Millennium Awards this year. They sat next to me at Sebastian Copeland’s table, who did a documentary on his expedition to the North Pole called ‘Into the Cold’ – Check it out if you haven’t. All over I looked and saw friends I knew in the special yoga community I love more and more each day: Felicia Tomasko, Tommy Rosen, Kia Miller, Akyanna and Steve Gold… You all rocked the festival in more ways than one. I appreciated seeing you outside of Santa Monica and in the beautiful Squaw Valley Village. Gonca Gul, you introduced me to some incredible facilitators of the yoga movement and I am forever grateful. I wore Ula Sport both days I was there, so you were there in spirit!

Magda Freedom Rod- you are pure rock, girlfriend! New friends… Chris Buehrer and DJ Pierce… Some good dancing times at Girl Talk!

My road pal, new business partner and other half of my lucky number… Cara Scott. I wouldn’t want to do it again without you! Had so much fun with you. So many memories made and more to come!

Our schedule: Arrived on Friday night pretty late, but just in time to grab some sushi and catch Michael Franti and the Spearhead. I really wanted to see Kumare, a film that my friend Anand Gandhi’s brother starred in and produced, but our timing was off… Perhaps we’ll host a screening of it at FSY?! http://www.kumaremovie.com/trailer/

I also met many new vendors and cool new products to bring into the studios, as well as the strong women and men behind the brands: Bendala, Fearless Raw Organic Chocolate, Organic India Teas, Simply Human, Juil, Victoria Keen, Bamboo Bottle, Sativa and Donna M to name a few… Look out for FSY trunk shows!

Shiva Rea’s class with Steve Gold and Akyanna was uplifting with little direction other than to be free and let go! She is a rockstar teacher and the band/DJ combo made it a social practice. Meditation with Tommy & Kia with Akyanna on Sunday morning made me feel higher than any other substance and vice could offer. I felt as though I reached a blissful state in my first time chanting a meaningful mantra for 63 minutes. And, I must admit, I could see it be a little addicting and I could have even gone for longer… even though I was hungry and had to use the restroom from the start!

I sat in on a talk given by Gopi Kallayil, the man behind Google+ and a pretty awesome boss! He gave us insight on how he integrated his true self in the work place, as well as the actions he practices with his creative team. His best advice? Hire someone smarter than you. After the talk, Cara and I wandered into the lululemon teacher’s lounge and chatted with Felicia while John from Fearless Raw Organic Chocolate provided a taste of his creation that sounded funny, but tasted quite great… Joni Yung, the accidental yogist, was also there with her glitter tattoo still on from our Sweet Saturday event last Saturday at Fred Segal too! www.layogamagazine.com / www.fearlesschocolate.com / www.theaccidentalyogist.com

Girl Talk absolutely killed it on Saturday night… I was d-d-dancing in the dark all night long… I love his mash ups. So much fun. Must see. Would see again.

CDs I came home with: Michael Franti and the Spearhead, Thievery Corporation, Federico Aubele, Akyanna, Steve Gold, Fat Freddy’s Drop, MC Yogi (signed it for me too!) and a couple burned CDs that one of the DJs from the concert after party gave us.

With health and happiness, I am reminded to reflect, practice and meditate… on repeat.

“The way she shook it…” Posing to the left of me is a brilliant belly dancer I met at the party yesterday in Venice. She was dancing to the band Here II Here. I’m wearing Ula Sport and standing next to Melise, Andrea and Gonca (pronounced gan-ja). Daughter of Gonca, Melise, has an eye for great vintage and is opening a small store in Brooklyn,NY. So natural of her to do as a stylist’s daughter! Andrea lives in LA and teaches yoga. Gonca is the designer for Ula Sport, Leila Yoga and Gonca Gul dresses. She is based out of NY and Costa Rica. Power Trio!! We loved meeting Hemelayaa, Pauline Sukhdev Drossart and seeing Kia Miller again! Excited to see have them over to the studio for workshops and events coming up this summer.

Larry Payne, Ph.D., opened with introductions to Matthew Preece and Kay Preece, owners of Fred Segal Salon, and Leah Marsh, Director of Fred Segal Yoga. Instructors were introduced and thanked before Terra Gold started with a chant including tradition Kirtan music. Everyone participated and the space was filled with love and good faith in it’s future success. Ganesha was asked to remove all obstacles with high energy from all in attendance. The evening closed blissfully with a meditation led by Adayara Budaea using Sound Healing, which is a class featured on the schedule every Monday at 6pm.
